Why Liposomal CBD Is Significantly Better

    By Cal Chan

A lot of people have asked us why we invested so much in liposomal technology. Isn't CBD alone good enough? The truth is that it is, provided you get the right formulation. We believe the right formulation is one that has liposomal technology, which creates very tiny droplets that can quickly enter into the bloodstream. These droplets are called nanoemulsions. They are so small that they go in and out of the cells very easily. This makes our products the most absorbent, fast-acting edibles in the world.

How does liposomal technology make our products better?

Hemp in general is fat soluble. If you eat a hemp edible, you must wait an hour or two for it to take effect. This is because it must travel through the digestive system before it can reach the bloodstream. It then must travel through the liver where it is metabolized into a usable form. The same thing happens with cannabinoid oils, which in traditional tinctures can still take around 45 minutes to an hour to set in. Oils too are fat based, so they must travel through the digestive system before they enter the bloodstream. The wait time for an effect can depend on how thin or thick the oil is, and what process is used to extract the oil. The problem with orally ingesting CBD products is that you're not getting an instant effect, meaning it's very hard to dose, particularly for a beginner. This is where liposomes can really help.

    What is a liposome?

A liposome is a tiny, positively charged bubble. They are made of phospholipids, which are found in all living cells. Phospholipids are the building blocks of cell membranes. They function as the "glue" that holds the cells together. This is why they're called "membrane" lipids. Liposomes exist in all living cells and in many foods. In fact, breast milk is one of the most basic examples of highly nutritious liposomes. The body recognizes them as food and will absorb them very efficiently. Liposomes pass-through the cell membrane to deliver active ingredients much more effectively than non liposomal formulations.

How does this relate to CBD?

The cannabinoids contained in whole plant hemp behave like any other lipid. In other words, they dissolve in oil, but not water. This becomes even more of a problem when you consider that the cannabinoids in plants are hydrophobic, meaning that they don't dissolve well in water or fat. This is where liposomes come into play. Liposomes are capable of holding the cannabinoids in a stable suspension while they're being ingested, ensuring that they can be used immediately to provide relief from your ailments without waiting for an hour or two for it to kick in.

But aren't there other edibles on the market that utilize liposomal technology?

Yes, but they're not cannabis-based products, so they have no effect whatsoever. There have been liposomes made for other industries - such as pharmaceuticals - but these do not contain THC or CBD and therefore cannot provide a psychoactive effect or the positive benefits of CBD. There's also a limited number of fast-absorbing products being sold by companies that use emulsifiers instead of liposomes, but these have been known to taste bad and not work as quickly, and are simply subpar to Trilogia liposomal formulations. They also do not contain any cannabis at all.

In summary, there is currently no other product on the market that utilizes liposomal technology to provide you with an instant effect. This is what sets our products apart. We are the only company in the world that provides liposomal CBD that can be used for medical or recreational purposes.
